Today I attended the public lecture "Black Box Fading: (Dis)embodiment with an Immersive Improvisation Machine" presented by Melody Chua, a Master's student at the ZHdK Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.
There, I learned about the concept of "post-human artist" in the
context of music improvisation while interacting with software. The
concept is about the value of machines becoming "improvisation" experts
complementing human artists during performance, by for example,
predicting future tones based on previous ones, or replicating human
movements with motion-capture to play similar instruments. I think this
is an exciting field of AI application. It would be interesting to
explore how tagging sections of recorded movement and sound with
feelings/thoughts humans had while experiencing music could help to
teach machines to understand human emotions. This could be used, for
example, to co-create music with machines based on the feelings we
express while creating sounds, and in this way, build sort of therapies
while interacting with machines. I am excited about all what is being
researched in ML and its different applications.
