SAMBA - Digital Leaders Conference 2023

So glad about yesterday's Digital Leaders Conference organized by SAMBA at PwC Oerlikon. I was so pleased and grateful to have the opportunity to listen to insightful & inspiring lessons learned from front-runners in digital transformation in Switzerland.

Here are a couple of insights I gathered from the discussions. I'd be glad to continue conversations & further exchange ideas & experiences on these topics:

  • A governance framework is essential to ensure ethics in AI, helping organizations manage AI risks effectively.
  • When faced with transformation processes, organizations need to strategically adapt to reality and be able to re-prioritize and re-orient business activities.
  • For successful transformation, it is important to effectively communicate the organization's vision. Leaders need to be honest, it is imperative to remain customer-centric, and put capital in products & projects that deliver on business expectations.
  • Customer & employee satisfaction are key in digital transformation.
  • To remain afloat, always transform, never become complacent.
  • It's important to keep a "people-first" approach when undergoing transformation. Attend to people's safety-zone and bring them to where you want the organization to head to. But it is difficult to accomplish. In this case, it is important to focus on the WHY. Bring inspiring people ("influencers") to transformation plans, to motivate others into why it is important to drive transformation processes forward in the organization.
  •  For transformation programs to succeed, ensure the support of leadership at all levels in the organization, especially the board of directors and the CEO.
  •  Try to be outward-oriented, listen to customers and be less brand-emotional. Being value-driven & delivering on that is reflected on e-commerce conversion/data-driven processes.
  •  It is also important to strategically decentralize decision-making, aligned with the transformation the organization is undergoing.
  •  AI doesn't solve all problems, sometimes a simple statistics analysis can solve our problems.
  •  Planning & execution need to go hand-in-hand to deliver effective solutions.
  •  It's extremely important to have humans in the loop to train & optimize AI applications.
  •  Buying off-the-shell software that is not tailored to business needs can cause failures of up to 80% in organizations.
  •  Be agile enough to respond to things that were not predicted: How do you make the organization agile enough to cost-effectively respond to unexpected changes? Use a decision-making tool to respond to such events very quickly, to help adapt to change & focus only on key decisions.
